Invacare Associates Use YouTube to Answer President’s Plea for Economic Solutions

ELYRIA, Ohio–(BUSINESS WIRE)–President Obama’s White House to Main Street Tour is rolling into Lorain County on January 22, 2010, and Invacare (NYSE: IVC) associates are primed with ideas.

The White House to Main Street Tour is coming to Lorain County to obtain new ideas to spur growth in the economy and to create new jobs. President Obama will be visiting various businesses in the area to discuss this on the second stop of his Tour, which originated in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Lorain County is home to Invacare’s global headquarters, and as one of the largest and most successful businesses in the county, Invacare is uniquely positioned to speak with the President.

Invacare associates are giving voice to this fact. A number of associates taped videos expressing their answers to the President’s mission for new ideas and select responses have been posted to YouTube on the “WHtoMainStLorain” channel.

“Invacare is ready to answer Obama’s appeal for ideas on economic growth,” said Daniel Lee, vice president of marketing for Invacare HomeCare division. “Invacare is one of the only companies in the area that has been hiring through this difficult economic climate and we operate the largest complex wheelchair manufacturing plant in the world right here in Lorain County, making chairs like the one used by Christopher Reeve. We’re hoping to use the internet to spread this message to the President himself.”

Invacare hopes to attract President Obama’s White House to Main Street Tour to its facility with the help of social media. Just last week, the State of the Union was rescheduled in light of appeals from fans of ABC’s Lost. The Lost season premiere was to be bumped to make room for Obama’s address to Congress, but is now in limbo thanks to a YouTube campaign from its viewers.

Lee continued, “Our associates and corporate leadership feel strongly that Invacare should be a stop on the President’s agenda, and this is evident through the YouTube video appeals. Obama has harnessed the power of social media himself and is clearly tuned in to what people are saying. We hope the insights of our associates will persuade him to hear us in person.”
